How class runs

Technique. Drilling. Live rolls.

"The classes are well structured, with a good balance of technique, drilling, and live sparring." That is how one of our students describes class here.

  1. Learn it

A coach shows the move step by step, with the details that make it work on a resisting partner.

  2. Drill it

You and a partner take turns, slowly then with more pace, until it starts to feel like yours.

  3. Roll

Live sparring, where you test what you learned against a resisting partner.

Two ways to train

Gi and no-gi

Five students in gis sitting in front of the Daniel Gracie Athletic Advance wall

The gi

The traditional uniform. Grips on the collar and sleeves slow the game down and reward precision, which makes it a great place to learn.

Five students in rash guards and shorts standing on the blue mat

No-gi

Rash guard and shorts. Faster, grip-free grappling that carries straight over to self-defense and MMA.

The style

Pressure first. Then the finish.

Ariel "Tarzan" Sexton refined his game in New York, training under Daniel Gracie and the Renzo Gracie Team in the Blue Basement era, the room that produced many of the sport's most respected athletes. What came out of it is the pressure-based, submission-driven jiu-jitsu he is known for, and the one he teaches in Kendall.

That doesn't mean it is only for competitors. Beginners, hobbyists and competitors train side by side, and a beginners class is part of the program, so you can start from day one.
